LA VENTANA CROSSING - Jan, 23 2010

Cynthia Brown scored second place in the women's La Ventana Crossing, on her custom purple Trespass 5'5" directional surfboard. Despite tangling at the final mark, Cynthia was able to finish second out of all women making the 10 mile crossing between El Ceralvo Island and the town of La Ventana.

Phil Midler, owner of XL Kite shops, finished first in the mens amateur division on his 5'5" Trespass directional surfboard.

The island race requires kiters to cross the 10 Mile channel, starting with a standard boat assisted rabbit start off the island of El Cerralvo, followed by a broad reach to a mark located near the town of El Sargento. Racers must then slalom through a series of reaching marks until they round a leward mark in front of Baja Joe's in La Ventana. The crossing is a grueling test of both physical stamina and tactical skills because riders are forced to kite on one tack for over twenty minutes, at full speed while pounding through endless chop.

Westly Watts, an 18 year old Caution rider from Santa Cruz deserves honerable mention for finishing his first race and congratulations to all the other Caution riders who completed and finished the crossing.
