On April 26th and 27th CAUTION attended the KiteXPO in Pismo Beach, California. It was the fifth annual KiteXPO, but unfortunately there was little wind, except for a 30 minute window when Aron Harsh was ripping around on an 18M and 5'5" Trespass board. Check out the video here: Click Here

MAYHEM MAIL

The 2008 Mayhem is flying out the factory and has been getting rave reviews, and to prove it, here is a random piece of mail from a new Caution rider in Sweden: (unedited version here)

Hello

I bought a Caution kite, and I just had to write to you guys at Caution kites and tell you the kites you guys make are wonderful. I used to ride a bow kite, but this is much faster in turning and I know where I had the kite all the time, even when I crashed and when I crashed it was so easy to relaunch. The kite is so good, I loved it from the first minute in the water.

Thanks for a great kite!
Lars E, Sweden

VENTANA COURSE RACING

CAUTION co-owner/team rider Jeff Burton finished fifth in the La Ventana buoy race on Sunday. After placing top eight in an elimination round in lighter air on a 14M Mayhem and 5'5" Trespass, Jeff rigged down to an 11M Mayhem for the final. With a solid start and good upwind and downwind speed Jeff finished with a respectable fifth place finish among some of short course racing's strongest competitors. Recent events have proven what we at Caution already knew; we build some of the most durable and high performance equipment on the market.

CAUTION MAKES THE COVER

Caution Kites snags another magazine cover shot!   Apparently Caution Kite's 2004 Spitfire C-Kite is the ultimate in late summer outdoor fashion for women this year. Caution scored the cover of Title9, a woman’s outdoor clothing catalog based out of Northern California. The cover of the Title9 catalog and other kiting related exposure in mainstream media (see the Sprite video posted earlier this year on Youtube) indicate an increasing public awareness for the sport of kitesurfing and ensure that our sport will continue to grow with fresh blood and innovating ideas. Most importantly, regardless of whether you are in Santa Cruz, San Francisco or located internationally, in terms of fashion, flames are always "in."

US KITING NATIONALS

Caution Team Riders Adam Denny and Josh Nepf competed in the US kiting nationals in San Francisco on July 25, 2007. Adam Denny finished with a respectable 2nd place finish in the silver fleet at the US Nationals with an injured knee which resulted in a couple DNFs (Did Not Finish). Adam was riding his 9M and the 5’5” Trespass. Adam raved about the Trespass’ solid speed and ability to point upwind. Josh Nepf had respectable although unreported finishes as well.

TILMANN HEINIG AT IT AGAIN!

CAUTION TEAM rider Tilmann Heinig of Kiel Germany attended the “DAYS OF THUNDER” GPS speed event in Thiessow/Rügen. Tilmann, with his 2007 ANSWER, finished first with a speed of 62 Km/h. Tilmann took the podium with second and third place competitors trailing with respective times of 54km/h and 45km/h. The GPS data indicates that Tilmann’s performance at this event appears to shatter the world kiteboarding speed record! CAUTION recognizes Tilmann’s hard work and supports him in his continuing effort to revolutionize speed kiting competitions.

TRAGIC ACCIDENT ON THE NORTH COAST

The Caution team is deeply saddened to report the first kite related fatality on the north coast of Santa Cruz. The Caution team sends our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the 18 year old man whose life was ended prematurely while flying a kite at Panther beach on the north coast on Thursday, June 14, 2007.

Although the information regarding the accident is still coming out, the preliminary reports indicate that the accident involved an 8M C-kite and was most likely due to the operator’s inexperience and the dangers associated with flying a kite at that specific location.

This tragic and unfortunate loss is a reminder that kitesurfing is an extreme sport and that all individuals in the kitesurfing community, from beginners to sponsored team riders, face the risk of serious injury or death. We encourage all individuals in the kitesurfing community to take a moment to reflect on this loss, and contemplate how we might better ensure the safety of ourselves, our peers and the public. If nothing else, please remind all beginners of the importance of investing in kitesurfing instruction from a certified kitesurfing instructor.

TILMANN HEINIG RELOADED!

CAUTION TEAM rider Tilmann Heinig of Kiel Germany is now conducting speed testing on the new 2007 ANSWER. The CAUTION TEAM's new video features stock footage from Spring 2007 and focuses on CAUTION TEAM riders in the Santa Cruz area. CAUTION BROTHERS RIDE DIRTY!

The CAUTION TEAM returns once again to the dark waters of the SF bay to compete in the kiteboarding course racing circuit. Last Thursday night five CAUTION TEAM members showed up at Third Avenue in San Mateo to compete in the weekly Thursday evening races. Team Rider Peter Scheiebel finished first in the non-hydrofoil division with Poul Schiebel, and Dave Broome delivering solid top five performances in every race on their 5’5” Trespass surfboards and 12M 2007 ANSWERS. Team Rider JP, the secret weapon from years past, was unfamiliar with the race course due to his own confusion. JP was forced to follow his team mates around the course and was repeatedly heard asking both the race committee and competitors the location of the next mark. Team Rider Jessie Sheriffs in her first course race was the only girl to compete and had respectable first time finishes.

In the parking lot after the race there was considerable trash talk over one unnamed bay area kiter claiming victory with his hydro-foil board. Being the only competitor using a foil, he mysteriously won every race. Fairness and foil boards aside, the Caution Team will continue to dominate the non-hydro-foil division at the Thursday night races to come. See here.
